Alton Junior/Senior High School hosted its first chess tournament on February 25, 2017.  Willow Springs and Junction Hill brought teams to participate and players from the Alton and West Plains area participated individually.  Faith Collins of Alton took first place, scoring 15 points in the high school division.  Chris Faulkner of Willow Springs took second place with 12.5 points.   Joe Graves of Alton took the third place position with 11 points.  In the junior high division, the winner was Auston Burgess from Willow Springs, earning 14 points.  Lathen Coursey of Junction Hill earned 13 points and second place.  Owen Moore of Willow Springs took the third place position with 11 points.  Alton High School would like to thank all of the coaches, teams, and individual players for their help in making the tournament a success.  We would also like to thank the Senior Class of Alton High School for providing a wonderful concession stand for the event.

The school and chess team hopes to host a tournament each February.  If you know of a young person who would like to participate, please let them know to listen for an announcement in January of 2018, or contact Robert Kreutzer (robertkreutzer@alton.k12.mo.us) to get on the mailing list so you can be informed of the date next year.
