Sophomores recently had the opportunity to tour the vocational programs offered by South Central Career Center in West Plains. The students toured the facilities, met the instructors, and learned more about the various programs offered at SCCC.
Alton juniors and seniors may choose to attend classes at the Career Center in the morning. They build the class of their choice into their schedule and earn three high school credits for the year. They also have the opportunity to earn either a 1/2 credit in English or math depending on the course in which they are enrolled.
Courses offered at South Central Career Center include Graphic Arts, Culinary Arts, Auto Technology, Auto Collision, Welding, Health Occupations, Pharmacy Technology, and Surgical Technology. Almost all courses are offered for both junior and senior year. At the end of those two years, the students can earn a certification in their chosen area. Seniors only are allowed in the Pharmacy and Surgical Technology programs.
Applications are now being accepted for the programs. Interested sophomores and juniors need to visit with Mrs. Gilliland to see if they are eligible to enroll. Grades, attendance, and behavior are given full consideration when applications are reviewed.
