FAFSA - Free Application for Federal Student Aid, an important part of every senior and college students' life, opened on October 1st this year.  This is much earlier than in past years when the first day you could apply was January 1st.  The FAFSA that students should be completing now is the one that will help determine available financial aid for the 2017-2018 school year.  The process will be completed using the tax information for parents and students from the tax year 2015.

Mrs. Gilliland will be hosting "help" nights throughout the year.  The dates are Wednesday, November 16, January 18, February 15 and March 22.  The time will be from 3:30 to 7:30 and, depending on the number who show up for help, we will use either the computers in her office or in the library computer lab.  Some parents are comfortable with completing this process on their own and may choose to do so.  Others may need some or a lot of help and these nights are opportunities to receive whatever level of help you might need.  Parents and their seniors are encouraged to drop in any time during those hours.  They will need to bring their 2015 tax information (parents and student).

The website is the site used to apply for a FSA ID and to complete the FAFSA application.  If possible, one parent and the student will need to obtain the FSA ID.  Mrs. Gilliland recommends writing down your user name, password, email address and other information as you work through the process.  This prevents issues in future years when applying for your FAFSA again - YES, you must apply every year you are in college or a vocational program.

If these nights or times are not convenient for you, please call Mrs. Gilliland at 417-778-7215 ext. 224 to arrange another time.  Brochures and pamphlets that explain the process and review many financial aid terms are available in the counselor's office at the high school.  Seniors were given these earlier in the year, but parents may want their own copy and are welcome to stop by for some.

A Financial Aid Presentation by a college financial aid officer will be held on Thursday, November 3rd at 5:30 in the high school library.  Seniors, Juniors, and their parents are highly encouraged to attend.
