The students in our ECSE classroom had fun this week learning about our 5 senses. We tasted apples, went on a sensory walk using touch with our feet, used Mr. Potato Head to talk about our 5 senses, and had Mrs. Kasey, Teddy, and Evah come and show us how popcorn is made using the popcorn machine. We used all 5 senses tasting the popcorn, touching the popcorn, smelling the popcorn, and hearing and seeing the popcorn popping. Thank you Mrs. Deckard, Mrs. Kasey, Teddy, and Evah for the popcorn!

Our ECSE classrooms was introduced to Mat Man today. We built and sang our Mat Man song, learned about curvy and straight lines, and some of us even built Mat Man using playdough during center time. We are learning while having fun!

Alton R-IV School District is proud to announce that Alton Schools is a 2025-2026 National Beta School of Distinction and Merit. The school earned the Distinction recognition by increasing their club’s membership by at least 10% from last year and the Merit recognition by offering National Beta to all eligible grades on their campus. National Beta School of Distinction is an honor for Beta clubs striving towards academic achievement, exemplary character, demonstrated leadership and service to others. With an ongoing quest to instill these qualities in more students, the National Beta School of Distinction Award is designed to reward those schools that show an increase in membership for the current school year. This year, only 2,959 clubs across the country received this award. The National Beta School of Merit award is given to honor a club’s dedication and commitment to academic excellence. To achieve this prestigious honor, a school must include members from all eligible grade levels in their Beta club. This year 6,103 clubs across the country received this award. In a congratulatory letter to the school, Bobby Hart, CEO said “Thank you for your continued support of National Beta and commitment to developing future leaders!” Lisa Thompson who is the high school Beta sponsor stated, “We are thrilled to receive these awards again this year. Beta is an important organization in our school district recognizing academic excellence, student character and leadership skills, and following the Beta motto, ‘Let Us Lead by Serving Others’.”
With more than 500,000 active members and 14,000 clubs nationally and internationally, National Beta has become the nation’s largest independent, non-profit, educational youth organization. National Beta recognizes outstanding achievement, promotes character and social responsibility, encourages service involvement to school and community, and fosters leadership skills. Two students recently traveled to Nashville to compete at the National Beta Convention. Miley Holesapple a freshman competed in Poetry while seventh grade student Paisley Stubbs competed in Black and White Photography where she placed 7th at Nationals. Congratulations to both girls on their state convention wins qualifying them to compete at Nationals and way to go Paisley on your win at National Beta Convention.

2026-2027 School Year Immunization Requirements: *All 8th graders will need a TDAP and MCV vaccination or exemption. *All 12th graders will need a second MCV vaccination or exemption. *Preschool-students who are preschool this year and staying will not need any other vaccinations. If you are a new preschool enrollee contact the school nurse. *Kindergarten- students starting Kindergarten will need to contact the school nurse to determine what vaccinations/exemptions are needed. Proof of vaccinations or exemptions must be turned in BEFORE the first day of school, August 26, 2026. *Please contact Leslie Weyland RN or Casey Warren RN at the school with any questions.
